I have been to Knott’s Berry Farm in SoCal many many times. There has always been this one ride, this single ride that I always dreaded getting near. Anyone I was with always wanted to go on it, but I knew from the first humiliating experience that I was too fat to go on it. I would try at the “sample car” that sits in front of the entrance to the ride, but the buckle would never close. Ashamed of my weight, I would always sit it out while everyone else went on this coaster. Eventually I wouldn’t even “test” it out because I knew I was too big. Oh Xcelerator… How fun you did look.
Yesterday, I took my daughter to Knott’s and bought my year around pass. I’m so excited because she is finally tall enough to go on the big rides. No hanging around kiddy land for us anymore! We approach “the ride” and I feel myself getting nervous. I will be so humiliated if I sit at the entrance and it still doesn’t fit. I prepare my daughter for my failure… for her disappointment if in fact I don’t fit. I sit down… Exhale… And pull the strap over my stomach. The two metal pieces meet, and click closed! That is only the first step… Now I pull down the bar… There is a green marking and red marking to tell you if the bar comes down enough… It’s GREEN! OMG… I can go! It’s exciting, I no longer have to wait on the sidelines… I can now finally FULLY enjoy the park.
It’s the little things that help me to enjoy success… And it’s oh so sweet. :D
